Anatomical study of the swallowtail butterfly (Papilio machaon).
The following illustrations show the external study of the butterfly, along with a detailed study of its caterpillar.
It is a large species. The hindwings feature striking tail-like extensions located at the level of vein V4.
The underside is similar, but less contrasting. Females are generally larger in size, so the species does not display strong sexual dimorphism.
