About Lydia Cánovas

Hello!

My name is Lydia, and I grew up in a small town in the Murcia region of Spain, in a family of artists—potters and traditional folk poets. I spent my childhood surrounded by nature and animals.

I've always been a curious person, and from an early age I knew I wanted to pursue a career in art. I studied Fine Arts at the University of Murcia, and years later, after moving to Germany, I discovered scientific and natural history illustration as a way to connect with my new surroundings. Becoming more aware of the natural world around me helped me adapt to a new country, culture and way of life.

Observing, studying and illustrating nature has fascinated me since childhood. I used to collect insect wings, pressed plants and other natural treasures, which I would later examine under a microscope.

Today, my work focuses on botanical and wildlife illustration, combining careful observation with artistic sensitivity to communicate scientific knowledge in a clear, accurate and engaging way.

I am particularly interested in projects related to science communication, biodiversity and environmental awareness. I believe illustration is a powerful tool for making complex information more accessible, inspiring curiosity and helping people connect with the natural world.

As a passionate reader, I also enjoy collaborating on editorial projects, including book covers, interior illustrations and other publishing work where storytelling and visual communication come together.

Thank you for visiting my website. I hope you enjoy exploring my work and getting to know my world a little better. 💚
