The harbor seal (or common seal) is a marine mammal of the Phocidae family, widely distributed coastal regions of the Northern Hemisphere. Its streamlined body, adapted for aquatic life, and its characteristic mottled coat make this species one of the most recognizable seals along the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.

In recent years, their populations have declined significantly due to pollution caused by industrial agriculture, water runoff, and other factors.
